Storm systems, ash fall, and the constant threat of the Helghast-style AI surveillance network mean that visual stealth is unreliable. Thermal Optics are an optic-slot attachment that replaces a standard zoom scope with an infrared heat-sensor display. When equipped, the viewfinder shifts to a thermal palette: the environment renders in cool blues and purples while any living or recently heated object glows in yellow, orange, or white depending on distance and temperature differential. Equipping them is straightforward—open the weapon customisation menu, select the optic slot, and choose any thermal variant you have in your inventory. No additional activation is needed; the sensor is live as long as the optic is mounted. Best use cases: night operations, heavy fog or rain, dense vegetation where enemies can hide behind foliage, and confirming whether a suppressed shot actually connected. They are especially effective on precision rifles and DMRs, where a single clean shot matters and you need positive visual confirmation of a target's vitals before pulling the trigger. Limitations: thermal optics do not penetrate solid cover (walls, concrete, metal). A target fully enclosed in a building will not register. Very cold or very hot ambient conditions can compress the contrast range, making distant signatures harder to distinguish from background heat. In Wildlands, the lowland jungle's ambient warmth can wash out a distant signature; in the highlands, the cold air sharpens contrast considerably.
