Ghost Recon: Breakpoint (2019)
Betrayed by your own. Stranded on Auroa. Hunted by your past.
Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Breakpoint is a tactical shooter video game developed by Ubisoft Paris and published by Ubisoft. Released in 2019, it is the eleventh installment in the Ghost Recon franchise and a direct sequel to 2017's Ghost Recon Wildlands. The game abandons the sun-scorched jungles of Bolivia for the rain-lashed, tech-utopian Pacific island of Auroa, swapping open-world freedom for a survival grind where a sprained ankle can be as deadly as a sniper round. Its story, built on betrayal by a former ally, drags the Ghosts into a personal, paranoid war that feels less like a spec-ops mission and more like a slow-burn thriller.

Lore & Background
Set in the near future, Ghost Recon Breakpoint follows Lieutenant Colonel Anthony "Nomad" Perryman and his team of Ghosts as they investigate the collapse of Skell Technology, a drone manufacturer on the isolated island of Auroa. The island, a self-sustaining tech utopia, has fallen under the control of the Wolves, a rogue former Ghost unit led by Cole D. Walker, a character previously encountered in Ghost Recon Wildlands. Walker's betrayal and his army of elite ex-military operatives turn the paradise into a hostile wilderness.
In Their Own Story
Nomad's helicopter is shot down over Auroa. He wakes alone, wounded, and hunted. The radio crackles with Walker's voice: 'You're not in Bolivia anymore, Ghost. This is my island now.' Through rain-slicked forests and abandoned Skell facilities, Nomad must survive the elements, scavenge for supplies, and piece together why his former ally turned against everything they once stood for. Every drone in the sky, every Wolf patrol, is a reminder that the enemy knows his tactics—because they taught him.
Reader's Guide
Ghost Recon Breakpoint was developed by Ubisoft Paris, with support from several other Ubisoft studios. The game was released on October 4, 2019 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Windows, and Google Stadia. Upon release, Breakpoint received mixed reviews from critics, who praised the improved movement and gunplay over Wildlands but criticized the always-online requirement, technical bugs, and the implementation of survival mechanics that felt at odds with the series' tactical roots. Ubisoft later released a major update, the "Ghost Experience" mode, allowing players to customize difficulty, HUD elements, and survival features to better suit their playstyle. The game also received several post-launch narrative episodes, including "Deep State" featuring Sam Fisher from Splinter Cell, and a crossover with Rainbow Six Siege. Despite a rocky launch, Breakpoint maintained a dedicated player base through ongoing updates and seasonal content.
